Planning FAQs

Good questions.
Clearer decisions.

Understand the terms before deciding how coverage fits into your business plan.

Is GroRight an insurer?
No. GroRight helps business owners find appropriate coverage through a licensed advisor; the policy itself is issued by an insurance company. We work with Manulife and Equitable to explore insurance options suited to your business and personal priorities.
Is corporate-owned life insurance the same as key-person insurance?
No. Corporate-owned describes the policy owner. Key-person describes a business protection purpose. A company-owned policy can be arranged for key-person protection, but the terms are not interchangeable.
Is this an employee group life plan?
Not necessarily. Corporate-owned and key-person policies commonly address company obligations. Group employee life plans generally provide employee coverage through an employer-sponsored arrangement. If group benefits are on your list, raise it on your Discovery Call and we’ll tell you whether we can help.
Can life insurance fund a shareholder buyout?
It may provide funding after an insured shareholder’s death when coordinated with an appropriate legal agreement. The agreement, valuation, ownership structure, beneficiary designations, and coverage amount all matter.
Is coverage guaranteed?
No. Applications are subject to underwriting and insurer acceptance. Benefits, exclusions, premiums, and effective dates depend on the policy. A conversation or application does not put coverage in force.
Are premiums tax-deductible?
Do not assume that they are. The treatment depends on the arrangement and applicable law. Obtain advice from your accountant or tax professional before relying on a tax outcome.
Can my company keep existing coverage?
Review existing policies before making changes. Replacement can involve new underwriting, different terms, costs, and other consequences. Do not cancel existing coverage based on this website.
Where does GroRight work?
We work with business owners across Canada. Our advisors are licensed in Alberta, and advice is provided only where the advisor working with you is licensed. We’ll confirm this on your first call.
What should I bring to a first conversation?
Start with general business priorities and existing coverage information. Do not send medical records, identification documents, banking details, or confidential shareholder documents through an initial website inquiry.

Still have a question?

A short conversation can usually clarify more than another page can.
